Institute for Science Education & Science Communication

Welcome to the Science Institute!

The Institute for Science Education and Science Communication (Science Institute) at Columbia College Chicago was established on September 1, 1991, by Dr. Zafra Lerman, to address one of the nation's biggest crises: Science Education.

The Science Institute's mission is to provide science education to the general public through the education of Columbia College students, the majority of whom major in arts and communications fields.

It is a tenet of the Science Institute that students who engage in careers which involve communicating with millions of citizens should have a solid background in the sciences. Since science and technology are an increasingly vital part of world news, public benefits from
this curriculum are incalculable.

The Science Institute regularly collaborates with other institutions of higher education including Princeton University and Indiana University, and has been involved in research projects with Northwestern University and Duke University as well.
